Democratic Party Candidates
Bill Cobbs, Farmington Hills, Navy Veteran, Retired Xerox Executive
“Too many Michiganders have been left without clean water and our state is now at the bottom of the country in ethics and transparency. I’m running for Governor to clean up our state and give power back to the people. We need to restore trust and integrity to Lansing; invest in our schools, infrastructure, and environment; and make Michigan a great place to raise a family. As the Global Vice President for Xerox, I listened to our customers and led a team of professionals from different backgrounds and skill sets. I’ll do the same in Lansing — bring together both parties and the best talent we have from across this Michigan to rebuild our industry and infrastructure and implement the highest level of ethics and transparency.” https://www.billcobbs.com/
Abdul El-Sayed, Detroit, Physician, Epidemiologist & former Detroit Health Director
Abdul is a medical doctor, an educator and public servant who rebuilt the Detroit Public Health Department during the Emergency Manager crisis. “I envision a Michigan where every child can flourish. That means all Michiganders have access to dignified work that pays a living wage, to safe and reliable housing, to affordable childcare, and to the freedom to live as they see fit. That means every child has access to an exceptional education and a pathway to a fruitful career. We deserve bold, inspired, and forward-thinking leadership. I am standing up for our state. I hope you will stand with me, for our future.” https://abdulformichigan.com/
Shri Thanedar, Ann Arbor, Businessman
Shri is a successful Ann Arbor businessman. He is self-funding his campaign. “All Michiganders deserve an equal shot at success, but for far too long our leaders have favored the wealthy over the middle class. I am the only candidate in this race who knows what it’s like to go hungry. I am the only candidate who has created a single job. And I know what role our government can serve in helping people and small businesses get on a path to financial stability. I will work for policies that lift up working families through access to quality education and job training, allowing them to get good paying jobs that provide a comfortable life and a secure retirement. It’s time to level the playing field so that every Michigander has an opportunity to pursue their dreams. https://www.shri2018.com/
Gretchen Whitmer, East Lansing, Lawyer, former prosecutor and Senate Democratic leader
Gretchen is a lawyer, served as prosecutor and in the Michigan House of Representatives and was the Democratic Senate Minority Leader before leaving public office. “I am a proven fighter. I can mobilize people to take on our big problems and will challenge the status quo in Lansing to get things done for all Michiganders. Having grown up in and around the waters of Michigan, I am committed to protecting Michigan’s heritage, including the Great Lakes and fighting for government transparency to ensure we never allow our drinking water to be poisoned again. I will challenge both parties to do what is right and keep listening to Michigan as we mobilize for change on important the issues.” https://www.gretchenwhitmer.com
